This is a one-of-a-kind whirligig which combines the action of a dancing jointed man with a spinning propeller and moving "dance floor". The base the dancer stands on goes up and down as the blades turn causing his legs, arms, and body to move. Made from wood, sheet metal, and odds and ends of hardware, including a spring, hand carved, and "make do" parts, it has a funky and unusual look. The man is carved from pine, has a top hat, and a face with nose, smile and other features. The sides are decorated with reflectors. It was originally clamped to something on top of a barn in Indiana. Now it is mounted on a base so that it is free-standing. It was probably made in the 1950's, and is in very good, used and weathered condition - although the front of one foot is long missing. Overall height with the base and original pole is 35". The whirligig itself is 21" long by 16" high by 5 1/2" wide, with an 18 1/2" propeller. The man stands 10 1/2" high. The price is $350.00. Inventory Code: AROH. Dancing man whirligig ... This is a whimsical whirligig of a man sawing wood. It has nice paint, and there are fun details, like a large screw bent into his pipe, and the pencilled in face. The mechanism was removed at some time, and then replaced with an old doorknob. The man is missing one leg. His coat and hat are dark blue. The propeller is red and white, with a light blue center. The paint is mostly strong, with a little weathering from outdoor use. The overall length is 26". The man stands 13 1/4" tall, on a base 4 1/4" wide, and the propeller is 22" in diameter. It is about 40 to 50 years old. The price is $195.00. Inventory Code: AAHC. Man sawing wood whirligig ... One side ... The other side ... Closeup of the man ... Another view ... Front view.

This is a detailed and very good looking model of a house. The main house is built of wood. It is has a shingled roof, a stone chimney with a wood chimney top which comes through the roof shingles. There are glass windows with half round wood for frames and several doors that work. When opened, the doors reveal a linoleum floor. The house has a "yard" made of pine and painted gray. This is topped by a fence made from pine and dowels, and painted green. There is an overhead light inside and an electrical receptacle on one end, and it even has a storage drawer built in under the house on the other end. The entire house is attractively painted in white, cream, green, red, and grey and the paints have developed good patina and surface. This piece was probably made around the 1940's. It is in very good, sturdy condition, with appropriate wear over many years; and is 24" long by 9" deep by 13" high to the top of the chimney. Please note that while the light lights and looks good, the wiring is old. It should not be used unless you have a qualified electrician look at it. The price is $375.00. Inventory Code: TKCC.

Here is a series of old hand made, folky, metal cutouts painted on both sides. These pieces came out of an auto mechanic's garage in the Bedford, PA area. The garage had been closed since the 1970's and these had been adhered to the walls for decoration. As a result, many have marks on the back side showing where they were glued. These cutouts were likely made no later than the 1950's, and the look of some are definitely earlier. They are all original and untouched (other than a little cleaning). Priced individually, there will be a discount for a group purchase.

This is a birdhouse made like the Starship Enterprise. It was done by Eugene Poore probably in the 1970's or '80's. He called it the "Starship Energizer". It is made from found objects, including a pantry or cheese box, wood, tin, dowels, and a banister part. It is painted an old red, white, and blue. The birds' houses are in the main body and both nacelles.
The Energizer is in good condition with typical weathering from outdoor use. Some of the dowels have been replaced, but that doesn't show. It is 42" long, about 17" high", and 38" wide; and was definitely used by birds (possibly from the Klingon home world). The price is $425.00. Inventory Code: PKAT. One side ... Overall ... Here are two carved, jointed, and painted wrestlers. They raise, lower, and go back and forth. The men are made from pine, while their arms are galvanized lightweight metal. They are mounted on an old plywood base on which are the mechanical remnants of the rest of the whirligig. It appears that this is the original base, and what is missing is the blade and some of the linkage. This funky and folky piece is probably no more recent than the 1940's. The paint is partially worn, but what remains is still fairly strong and not flaking. The men are 10" high while "sitting", and are 10" long and about 4" wide. They are mounted on a metal base with slots to allow some travel. The overall size is 26" long, 7" wide, and 12" high. The price is $1100.00. Inventory Code: AOPH. Image ... Closeup ... Side view ... This is a wooden bird feeder hand made in the shape of a church, from what looks like old fruit boxes; and painted an old, somewhat patinated off-white. Some of the nice touches on this piece are a hand carved and incised roof and columns, chip carving on large dowels, and decoration around the edges. The front doors open to reveal a wooden pulpit. This was probably made in the 1950's to 70's, but was kept indoors and apparently used as a decorative piece rather than as a feeder. It is in excellent condition. The price is $195.00. Inventory Code: ATWO.
