Stork yard ornamentThis is a fun, funky, and frivolous stork yard ornament. It is old, in very good condition, with good color, paint, and form. To make it even more quirky, the bird is mounted in a base made from an old Spry shortening can. This was filled with concrete. The legs, made from wood dowels, can be removed from the base. The bird has a metal strap for a neck. This is flexible so the head can bob in the breeze. The body and head are cut from 3/4" thick wood. Overall, in the base, the stork is about 38" high by 25" long. The can is 5" in diameter. It was probably from around the 1940's or 50's and stands sturdily in decorative splendor. The price is $245.00. Inventory Code: TOKR.   Video of the head bobbing (2.6Mb) ... See a slideshow of several views [589k].

Train car birdhouseThis is a birdhouse made as a railroad car. It has wonderful paint and details. The car has been used outside, is in very good used condition with just a little wear, and clean enough to be displayed inside. This birdhouse is 20 1/4" long (the base) by 6 1/2" wide (the roof) by 11" high (the smokestack). The colors include light blue, gray, black, white, yellow, and orange. It has the letters, "L & N" on it, for the rail line. This was likely made in the the 1970's. The price is $185.00. Inventory Code: THCH.   Train car birdhouse ... One side ... The other side ... WhirligigThis is a one-of-a-kind whirligig which combines the action of a dancing jointed man with a spinning propeller and moving "dance floor". The base the dancer stands on goes up and down as the blades turn causing his legs, arms, and body to move. Made from wood, sheet metal, and odds and ends of hardware, including a spring, hand carved, and "make do" parts, it has a funky and unusual look. The man is carved from pine, has a top hat, and a face with nose, smile and other features. The sides are decorated with reflectors. It was originally clamped to something on top of a barn in Indiana. Now it is mounted on a base so that it is free-standing. It was probably made in the 1950's, and is in very good, used and weathered condition - although the front of one foot is long missing. Overall height with the base and original pole is 35". The whirligig itself is 21" long by 16" high by 5 1/2" wide, with an 18 1/2" propeller. The man stands 10 1/2" high. The price is $350.00. Inventory Code: AROH.   Image ... Another angle ... Outsider art birdhouseHere is a folky outsider art birdhouse with a sculptural shape. It is made of wood, has two openings, and is painted black and red. The birdhouse has not been used and is in excellent condition. It stands 16 1/2" high, by 9" deep and 11 1/4" wide; and is signed on the bottom, "By WM Rhodes 1996". The price is $195.00. WhirligigThis is a whimsical whirligig of a man sawing wood. It has nice paint, and there are fun details, like a large screw bent into his pipe, and the pencilled in face. The mechanism was removed at some time, and then replaced with an old doorknob. The man is missing one leg. His coat and hat are dark blue. The propeller is red and white, with a light blue center. The paint is mostly strong, with a little weathering from outdoor use. The overall length is 26". The man stands 13 1/4" tall, on a base 4 1/4" wide, and the propeller is 22" in diameter. It is about 40 to 50 years old. The price is $195.00. Inventory Code: AAHC. Image ... One side ... The other side ... Closeup of the man ... Another view ... Front view.    Larger images:   Image ... Wood gateThis is an old wooden gate with a wonderful weatherbeaten, rustic country look. It has a great surface and feeling of age, with nice old weathered hardware. The gate itself stands 43" high by 24" wide by 2" deep. With the support piece it is hinged to, the overall size is 49 1/2" high, 28 1/2" wide, 2" deep. It is from the early 20th century. This is a good visual piece for hanging or display, and can also function as a working door, either swinging or fixed. The price is $235.00. Inventory Code: AKHK.   Wood gate ... Another angle ... Parrot yard ornamentThis is a painted wooden parrot lawn ornament. It was probably made in the 1960's or 70's, but this is very hard to tell. It has some scuffing on the paint, but looks as though it was not outside much at all. The parrot is made from pine and is 15" tall, about 5" wide, and 3/4" thick. Inventory Code: AKSA. Ordered. Duck Watering can woman Deer

Here is a series of old hand made, folky, metal cutouts painted on both sides. These pieces came out of an auto mechanic's garage in the Bedford, PA area. The garage had been closed since the 1970's and these had been adhered to the walls for decoration. As a result, many have marks on the back side showing where they were glued. These cutouts were likely made no later than the 1950's, and the look of some are definitely earlier. They are all original and untouched (other than a little cleaning). Priced individually, there will be a discount for a group purchase.

DuckThis duck is 19" by 19". The price is $75.00. Inventory Code: AROS. One side ... The other side.    Larger images:   One side ... The other side.

This is a birdhouse made like the Starship Enterprise. It was done by Eugene Poore probably in the 1970's or '80's. He called it the "Starship Energizer". It is made from found objects, including a pantry or cheese box, wood, tin, dowels, and a banister part. It is painted an old red, white, and blue. The birds' houses are in the main body and both nacelles.

The Energizer is in good condition with typical weathering from outdoor use. Some of the dowels have been replaced, but that doesn't show. It is 42" long, about 17" high", and 38" wide; and was definitely used by birds (possibly from the Klingon home world). The price is $425.00. Inventory Code: PKAT. One side ... Overall ... Whirligig figuresHere are two carved, jointed, and painted wrestlers. They raise, lower, and go back and forth. The men are made from pine, while their arms are galvanized lightweight metal. They are mounted on an old plywood base on which are the mechanical remnants of the rest of the whirligig. It appears that this is the original base, and what is missing is the blade and some of the linkage. This funky and folky piece is probably no more recent than the 1940's. The paint is partially worn, but what remains is still fairly strong and not flaking. The men are 10" high while "sitting", and are 10" long and about 4" wide. They are mounted on a metal base with slots to allow some travel. The overall size is 26" long, 7" wide, and 12" high. The price is $1100.00. Inventory Code: AOPH. Image ... Closeup ... Side view ... BIRD FEEDERThis is a wooden bird feeder hand made in the shape of a church, from what looks like old fruit boxes; and painted an old, somewhat patinated off-white. Some of the nice touches on this piece are a hand carved and incised roof and columns, chip carving on large dowels, and decoration around the edges. The front doors open to reveal a wooden pulpit. This was probably made in the 1950's to 70's, but was kept indoors and apparently used as a decorative piece rather than as a feeder. It is in excellent condition. The price is $195.00. Inventory Code: ATWO. Overall view ... Open doors ... From above ... One side ... Back view.    Larger images:   Overall view ... Open doors ... From above ... One side ... Back view.

Cast iron lawn sprinklerA cast iron tractor lawn sprinkler in excellent old original green and red painted condition. The colors are much darker and richer than the photo shows. It is 19" long (with a 36" wand) 9" wide and 8" high. The price is $350.00. Inventory Code: ASOA. Closeup.

Missile birdhouseThe Patriot missile is painted red, white and blue with the words "PATRIOT" and "USA". It has two openings for birds, and is 28" high by 4 1/2" in diameter. The price is $195.00. Inventory code: PCHC. Image.

Clothespin planterHere is a planter made from an old can surrounded by old-fashioned painted wood clothespins (not the spring type). The weathered paint is brown over green. Probably made around the 1940's, it is in very good condition. The size is 4 1/4" high by 7 1/4" in diameter. The price is $160.00. Inventory Code: PRWS. Image.
