Painted shelfThis is a folky hand made small shelf. It has good form and design, and was very nicely constructed from pine and crate wood. This was originally painted white which has taken on a wonderful alligatored and knobbled surface over the years. The shelf is sturdy and has more detailed elements (like mortised supports) than found in many home-constructed pieces. The size is about 20 1/2" high by 10" wide by 5 1/4" deep. Each of the shelves has a little lip on the front to contain objects. This can also be turned over to sit on a table or shelf. It was probably made in the early 1900's and is in very good condition. The price is $185.00. Inventory Code: TWKC.   Painted shelves ... Closeup of surface ... The other side ... Front view ... Closeup of top ... Closeup of middle ... Closeup of bottom ... Primitive benchThis is a very primitive "make-do" bench or small table, painted grey and red. It was made from leftover scraps of wood - some with cracks, knots, or partial cuts, whatever was available. From these odds and ends, and lots of big nails, someone made up a sturdy and functional piece. This table dates from the 1940's or 50's; it is 34" wide by 11" deep by 16 1/2" high. Since the cracks are original, it is in very good condition with minor paint wear. The price is $110.00. Inventory Code: TAWW.   Painted primitive bench ... Front view ... Back view ... Painted table with basketThis is a hand made small table with attractive form and the unusual addition of a wood splint basket attached between the legs. The round top is made from two boards. The curved legs splay out at the bottom and have metal feet. The table is painted in a weathered, crackled white enamel, and the basket is a buff yellow. Traces of older green paint are visible underneath. It stands 29 1/2" tall by 16 1/2" in diameter; the basket is 13 1/2" in diameter. The condition is very good and sturdy, with minor paint loss and a weathered surface. The most recent paint seems to be from the 1940's or 50's; the table itself is earlier than that, possibly from about the 1920's. The price is $275.00. 60's Mirrored shelfThis 1960's mirrored shelf looks great as a decorative object and makes a functional display that shows off both sides of the objects. There are openwork areas on each side of the central mirror, with groovy colorful metal inserts. It is just under four feet long by two feet high. The dimensions are 45 1/2" wide by 21" high by 4 1/2" deep. It is in excellent condition. There is one unobtrusive small crack on the lower shelf that does not affect the sturdiness. The price is $175.00. Inventory Code: AAAW.   Image ... Label on back.

Horseshoe standAn old plant stand made from welded horseshoes. Good form and design. It is 27 1/4" high by 13 1/2" in diameter; in excellent condition with weathered black painted surface. Probably made in early 1900's. The price is $295.00. Inventory Code: ASCK. Image ... Another view.

19th century standThis is a small table or candle stand from the 19th century. It has a round top, pedestal base with an octagonal shaft, and stands on four feet made from wooden spools. The dark brown painted surface has a rich patina and is very finely alligatored. The table stands 31" high; the top is 14" in diameter and the base is 23" by 23". It is in good condition, strong and sturdy. The top is slightly warped and has a short, tight, age crack. There is some minor paint loss, one spool is missing a chip, and there are a few light spots like paint. The price is $350.00. Inventory Code: TKTP.   See a slideshow of several views [468k] ... 19th c. stand ... Two more views ... Two additional angles ... From above ... Another view of the top ... Closeup of the base ... Desk organizerThis is a beautiful and very functional desk organizer built from crate wood. It has lots of cubbyholes and two drawers with ceramic knobs. The front and the inner surfaces of all the cubbyholes are painted mustard; the other surfaces are unpainted, oxidized to a darker patina. The front of the letter slots on the right are scalloped. The size is convenient: 19 1/2" wide by 15" high by 5 1/2" deep; the two drawers are 9 1/4" wide. From the 1930's or 40's, it is in very good condition. The price is $325.00. It is in very good condition, and has an old dark red paint over an older green. It is 10 1/4" square and 24" high. From around the 1930's. The price is $160.00. Inventory Code: ASHH.   Plant stand ... Another view.

Pair of painted plant standsThis is a matched pair of tall wooden plant or display stands. Each has four shelves, and worn, weathered paint in cream over a slightly darker yellow/cream. They are built from pine, with minor loss and age splits as shown in the photos. Each is 41 1/4" high by 13" deep at the feet. One is 16 1/4" wide, the other is 17". They were probably made in the 1940's or 50's, but could be earlier. The height and form give these good presence. They are priced at $135.00 each, or $245.00 for the pair. Tramp art tree

This wonderful tramp art display tree is hand made and has great, weathered gray and red paint. Formerly used as a plant stand, it also looks super with small carvings, tramp art, or (name your favorite collection). There are small wheels on the bottom to move it. It is 51 1/4" high by approx. 30" by 30". C. 1940's, it is in very good, weathered condition: a few of the platforms have cracks, but all are sturdy and useable. The price is $1100.00. Inventory Code: PRRO.   Tramp art display tree ... From above ... Closeup ... Another angle ... Displaying a collection (not included).

Black and white standThis is a home made wooden stand, painted black and accented with white around the top edge and on one side of each curved plywood foot. An earlier coat of red or pink shows faintly through the white areas. The round top, cut from a single board is 1 1/4" thick by 13 1/2" in diameter. The height is 29". It is in good condition, strong and sturdy, with a fair amount of wear around the edges. The paint is worn and weathered to an interesting surface. It was made in the 1940's or earlier. The price is $225.00. Inventory Code: CPTP.   See a slideshow of several views [612k] ... Black and white stand ... Another side ... Closeup of the top ... The top, from another side ... Carved standThis amphibian-covered stand is carved from diamond willow, with a soapstone base. The natural contours and ridges of the diamond willow have been carved into snakes, frogs, and salamanders, all very finely detailed with set in eyes and lines, spots, etc. The match holder (?) on top is incised with the words "F. Reichter, square bow, flat bottom, 1859 Minnesota River" and is supported by a brass hose nozzle. The silver paint looks fairly recent, but the snakes, etc. all have a very good, old, dark, patinated surface. The stand is 44" tall, the base is 9 1/2" in diameter, and the condition is excellent, with one old, probably original break near the base. The price is $750.00. Inventory Code: PHTS.   Carved diamond willow stand ... Closeup ... Top half ... Base and lower half ... Another overall view ... A third overall view.

Finster clock caseThis is a large and colorful clock case made by Howard Finster, with ink stampings of his name and address on the back. It has very good form, scalloped carving, impressed circles (from a little machine he made), and turned vertical supports in the front. It is in almost perfect condition, except that the very top of the crest has been broken. (This could be rounded easily). The top appliqued "flower" is painted red, green, and white, and around the center are diamonds highlighted in green paint. The print of the roses and the back cardboard are original. The case is 20 1/4" high, 18" wide, and 3 1/2" deep. The surface is a medium brown varnish. It was probably made about the 1960's, and overall, one of the nicer Finster cases around. The price is $395.00. Inventory Code: ARCK.   Howard Finster clock case ... Closeup of painted detail ... Top half ... Lower half ... One side ... The other side ... Back.

Funky chest of drawersThis is an amazing assemblage of scraps of wood, sardine cans, roofing nails, and some fasteners. Put them all together with plenty of imagination, give it a couple coats of paint, and out comes a very folky and original "what-not" chest of drawers. This little hand-made apothecary (loosely termed) has a sardine can as the bottom of each drawer to hold items. Actually, the can fits so well into the lap jointed wood that the lip of the can supports it. This creative piece also has 3 small cubby holes for additional storage. It came from rural Iowa and was likely made around the 1940's. It is painted an old gray and white. The drawer pulls are old roofing nails. It is constructed from pine; is in very good usable condition and could easily be hung. This piece is 22 1/4" long by 9 1/2" high and 7" deep including the pulls. You can be sure it is truly one-of-a-kind. The price is $235.00. Inventory Code: THAO.   See a slideshow of several views. [489K] ... Funky chest of drawers ... Another view ... Twig tableThis is an exceptionally intricate, folky, and artistic table. It is made from branches - both whole and split, twig, and burls; and is painted a deep reddish maroon with highlights and sections of gold and blue. The top has a design which incorporates the twigs into a cross surrounding another cross, and itself surrounded by sections set in herringbone patterns. The ends of the top had burls attached, and the sides are covered with split pieces. The six legs, made from heavier branches are interlocked and form an interesting sculpture in themselves. The table is sturdy and usable. It is 30 1/2" high by 32" wide and 18" deep. It is in excellent condition, and is contemporary; having been made about 2000 by the North Carolina artist, Gregory Smith. He has signed it under the top, and calls it his Easter Table. The price is $650.00. Inventory Code: ARAC.   Twig table with cross ... Another angle ... Top ... One side ... The other side ... One end ... The other end, from above ... Closeup of one end ... Rustic standThis is an interestingly made and nicely decorated small rustic stand. It is 21 1/4" high by 13 1/2" across the octagonal top. The three contoured legs and the cross supports are made from pine while the top is plywood. Both top and legs and been highlighted with half round molding. It is painted green, a red/brown, and white. The stand was likely made around the 1940's or 50's and is in very good, sturdy condition. While there is some wear to the green and much loss to the white on the top, the paint on the legs is strong and colorful. Overall it is a nice, decorative, and usable piece. The price is $145.00. Tramp art wall pocket with birdsThis is a beautiful tramp art magazine rack, decorated with birds on free-form branches and dated 1927. Below the birds is a large sunburst. The front folding section is attached with two chains, and includes a star and the inscription "Souvenir De L'Exposition". The date is in the center of the lower diamond. The birds, all the many spear tips, and a few other highlights are painted a dark mustard. The rest of the piece is patterned with light and dark woods, finished with a clear lacquer or varnish that is slightly bubbled. This rack is presumably Canadian, with the French inscription and a partly visible Postum label on the back. It is in outstanding, excellent condition. There are very skillful repairs on the two birds, and one very tiny chip missing from one spear. This impressive piece measures 29 3/4" high by 19 1/2" wide by 7 3/4" deep. The price is $1150.00. Painted standHere is a nice painted stand with a round top and curved legs. It is made from a medium-hard wood, something like a hard pine. The legs were cut by saw then have been carved and shaped. They seem to be pegged through the post. The post is carved on the edges, comes to a point on the bottom, and is attached to a cross piece under the top. The top is screwed to the base. The stand is 26" high and the top is 18" in diameter. The red and white paint has crazed and alligatored over the years giving this piece an attractive surface. The paint is still strong without flaking. Overall the condition is good but not perfect. While the stand is sturdy and strong, it also has a slight warp to the top (exaggerated by the camera), a tight age crack, some wear and loss to the paint, and some slight wear to the tips of the legs. The price is $195.00. Inventory Code: TKTA.   See a slideshow of several views [588k] ... Painted stand ... Two more angles ... From above ... Another two overall views ... Closeup of the feet ...
