This is a fairly large and very well done "miniature" tramp art chest of drawers. The piece has good form and detail and includes a mirror, two top layers for holding or displaying pieces, 3 drawers, and 3 smaller divided sections. It is about 22 1/2" high, 12" wide, and 10 1/2" deep, including the knobs. This chest is old, likely from the late 1800's and is made from a combination of crate wood and cigar boxes. The paint is more recent, probably 30 to 50 years old, with a good surface and slight crazing. The mirror and knobs are of a similar age as the paint. It is layered and chip carved and has nice form and size. The condition is excellent, with no loss and very slight paint wear. This piece is a well done example of tramp art. The price is $785.00. This is a folky house with chip carved tramp art elements, and great old paint decoration. It was made in the early 1900's and is constructed from crate wood, and pine. The house is 20" long, 11" wide at the eaves, and 13 3/4" high to the top of the chimney. The colors are red, white, and blue, plus some wood which has naturally aged to a light gray. The paints have taken on a wonderful patina and some have crazed or crackled. The house has other folk decoration such as stones inset in a panel on the rear and dots of white on the front top. Each of the chip carved notches on the front porch was also painted in blue or red. There are two side benches under the covered porch. The door opens to reveal the inner house. Everything is nailed and still fairly sturdy, although there is some little movement of a few pieces. The windows are glass. There is a bit of normal loss to the paint and perhaps the house was at one time decorated with more stones or shells. Overall, this is a colorful and rather intricate folk art model. This is a very detailed model house with accurately carved construction details, a heavy wire fence, and yard. It is also a birdhouse. It includes a carved chair and sofa on the porch. All the downstairs windows have what seems to be pictures of windows taken from magazines. These are mounted behind thin clear plastic. The fence likely was cut from a larger piece of wire mesh. The gate swings open and closed. The base (yard) is pine and the rest is a combination of pine and crate wood. The overall condition is very good - especially for the age, likely about the 1940's, and the outdoor use. However there is some slight loss to the top of the chimney and a bit of the back right roof corner was split off years ago. The entire house, yard, and fence has been painted, with no sign of repaint or overpaint. There is some natural aging, crazing, and wear in the paint. The yard is 14 3/4" by 19 1/2"; the house 13 1/2" by 11" and 9 1/2" high to the ridge. The price is $475.00. Inventory Code: AKHO. Folk art birdhouse ... Front view ... One side ... This super whirligig has a man with a sailor's cap and pipe, standing on the roof of a small, fenced house, sawing wood. He looks like Popeye, but it is likely that this piece predates him. Here is a four piece miniature, "living room" set, all made by Howard Finster. It is comprised of two small chairs, one larger chair and a larger sofa. These are all old and in generally very good condition. Each has a little bit of wear, chips or scuffs, or other idiosyncrasies. The two small chairs are each about 6" high by 3 1/4" wide and 2 1/2" deep. The large chair is about 8 1/4" high by 5 5/8" wide and 4 1/2" deep. The sofa is about 8" high by 13 1/2" wide and 4 1/2" deep. All the
pieces are made from plywood of various thicknesses, are finished with a clear varnish, and decorated with impressed and burnt designs from dies that Howard made for this purpose. The couch has one little circle painted red. One of the little chairs has some tiny dots of white paint on it. These are all relatively early craft pieces, probably from the 1960's. These are priced individually at $195.00 each for the small chairs, $245.00 for the large chair, and $295.00 for the sofa. The price for the set is $695.00. Inventory Code: AKPK. This is one of two very interesting, decorative scientific display models. They both were made by the W.M. Welch company. It is an AM Radio Teaching or Demonstration Fixture - and it works. That's right, you can mount it on your wall as a sculptural object and listen to it at the same time - and, not only that, but also look at the colors and lights of the glowing vacuum tubes. It has all the circuitry painted and labeled. Just a very "cool" piece. Both this and the other display item are the same size and were likely made in the 1950's. Both have a metal tag from the University of Wisconsin. Each has a removable cover held on by hooks, and has a carrying handle. The size of the wooden box is 31 1/4" wide by 21" high, by 5 3/4" deep. There is some minor cosmetic damage to one corner of the outer case. They are both in very good condition - and have a great look. The price is $450.00 each. Inventory Code: TSKC. This is the second of the two scientific display models. It is a Triode Tester Teaching or Demonstration Fixture. It may work, but we have no triodes to test. However, you can mount it on your wall as a sculptural object. It has all the circuitry painted and labeled. There is a small door in the back for adding batteries. Also a very "cool" piece.
Wikipedia says "A triode is a type of vacuum tube (or valve in British English) with three elements: the filament or cathode, the grid, and the plate or anode. The triode vacuum tube was the first electrical amplification device. Triodes are largely obsolete, having been replaced by the transistor, but do still find application where power consumption and overall size are not concerns, but low component count and high power capacity are."
