• This is an interesting whimsey with a carved arrow through a smaller hole in a glass bottle. The Double Cola soda bottle is likely from the 1970's. It is about 11" high by 2 1/2" in diameter. The hand carved wood arrow is 8" long and 1" wide. It goes through a 1/2" hole and through a paper or cardboard note inside the bottle. Condition of this whimsey is very good. There is a small crack in the bottle under one hole - probably from when it was made. There is a nice patina to the surface of the arrow. The price is $110.00. • This model ship in a bottle is mounted on a wood base with a metal plaque that says "Titanic". It is flying British and American flags and has cotton "steam" coming out of the smokestacks. It is in excellent condition, of unknown age but not recent, and measures 11 3/4" long by 3" in diameter by 4" high. The price is $225.00. Inventory Code: TTKR.   "Titanic" ship in a bottle ... • This is an extraordinary, complex bottle whimsey. This assemblage contains a scene in which a three-dimensional sailor is holding a bottle whimsey of a ship he apparently has made. This is actually another tiny, real bottle whimsey, about 1 1/2" long, which contains a rigged, three masted schooner with two jibs. On the table are several tools, plans for the whimsey, a ruler and square. A parrot is on a stand by the sailor's shoulder. There is a mouse on the floor, a seagull flying and a cat next to the sailor. The opening of the bottle is stopped with a cork on which is a drawing and signature, and then topped with a hand braided cord and a wood carving of the same sailor who is inside the bottle. It is all painted, carved in detail, and in excellent sturdy condition. The overall height of this assemblage is 12 1/2". It is constructed in a 1.5 liter wine bottle which is about 6 1/2" long by 4" wide and 9 3/4" high, and is signed and dated 1987. • This is a wonderful little painted whimsey made from a thread spool, with an arrow through it. The colors are great: red, yellow, light and dark green, gold, and silver. This piece is only 3 1/2 inches long and less than an inch in diameter. In that space, someone took the spool and carved a cage out, with a ring inside. Then, an arrow, with both ends larger than the opening, was carved and inserted through the cage. In addition, the arrow goes through two more rings, one on each end of the cage. • This is a nicely carved whimsey combining hinged pliers with a caged ball in the handle. It is carved from one piece of pine, with an unfinished surface that has taken on a dark patina with age. It is 5" long. When the pliers are open, it is 1" wide by just over 1/2" deep. It is in very good condition, with two small chips. The price is $155.00. Inventory Code: TPAT.   Whimsey carving ... • This is an old whimsey carved pliers with good age, maybe circa 1940's. It is about 7 3/4" long and unfolds into seven pliers: three full pliers plus four additional smaller pliers. This piece has an unfinished surface with a good patina. It is in very good, old condition. One little piece in an end has been replaced. The price is $175.00. • This is a nicely carved whimsy from a single piece of pine. It has a ball in cage, swivel, and chain link. One of the balls is freely moving within the cage. The other is part of the swivel mechanism: it is attached to the link above, and the cage rotates freely around it. This whimsy is in excellent condition, with a natural, oxidized surface. • This amusing and interesting bottle whimsey has a barrel built inside and a lock stopper with a folky carved head. The top and bottom of the barrel were assembled from strips inside the bottle. Then, 17 individually carved staves were attached, and fastened with string hoops. "Apple Cider" is burned into the top, and "H. Campbell, 1989, Norwich Conn." into the bottom of the barrel. The top of the stopper is carved with a bald head with large ears and nose, and painted eyes, eyebrows, and mouth. It stands 14 1/2" tall by 4 1/2" in diameter and is in excellent condition. • This carving incorporates an elongated, abstract face with a ball in cage whimsey. The surface is very smooth, and the design works with and emphasizes the pronounced grain of the wood. It is 11 1/4" long by 1 1/2" by 1 1/4", in excellent condition, with an oxidized natural surface. It has some age but probably is not more than 40 or 50 years old. The price is $110.00. • This is an unusual carved whimsey, with 3 balls-in-cages and sections carved with a twisted wood effect. It also is the first whimsey we have seen using a technique from wood turning: piecing many strips of different woods together before working it. In this way, there is a multi-toned effect from the various woods. The whimsey is in excellent condition, with a natural aged surface. It is 19 1/2" long by 1 1/2" square. • This is a very nice and well done carved whimsey with a large ball-in-cage and three chain links. It is 13" long overall. The links range from 1 3/4" to 2 1/4" long, while the cage, with a fixed "link" and pyramid base is about 9" long and just over 1 1/2" square. The entire piece is carved from pine and is left in a natural finish which has taken on a rich patina. It is probably about 50 years old or more. The condition is excellent. The price is $110.00. • This is a carved whimsey that is very interesting in that it seems to have been a work in progress. The balls are still fixed, yet all the hard work was done, so they could have been released easily. The piece has nice form and a naturally aged and darkened surface. • Here is an interesting whimsey. It is a carved pine penny holder with several links of chain attached. There are two 1904 Indian Head pennies set in to the holder. They were likely put in after the wood was soaked, as they are secure. The holder is about 6" by 2 1/2" and 7/8" thick. It is almost 13" long with the links. The carving has been stained a dark walnut color. There is a little wear to the holder, but otherwise it is in excellent condition. It was likely made in the early 1900's. The price is $125.00. • Here is an extraordinary collection, assemblage, and display of eight bottle whimseys. Each of the one pint whisky bottles contains a large hand made wooden frame containing a sports trading card. All of the bottles are set on a raised shelf in a hand made, semi-circular, lighted, metal display - like a hall of fame. There is a light in front of each bottle whimsey. The base is covered in red and green felt, trimmed with black braid and brass knobs. This assemblage is 26" across, 13 1/2" deep, and 13" high. The cards include Arnold Palmer, George Foreman, Wayne Gretzky, Wilma Rudolph, Jesse Owen, Joe Montana, Pete Rose, and Michael Jordan. It is signed by the maker, Richard Kopp, on the bottom, is in excellent condition, and was constructed in 1994. The price is $1600.00. Inventory Code: AORH. Image ... Closeup ... From above ... • This is a striking carved and painted assemblage which incorporates a ball in cage whimsey. Both the star on top and the one as a base have been attached to the upright portion. It was originally painted gold, which has now oxidized nicely. At a later time, but not recently, some silver painted highlights were added. This unusual piece is in excellent condition. It is 11" high; 8 1/2" across the base; and the center section with the ball is 1 1/8" by 1 5/8". This was made around the 1930's - give or take a few years. The price is $350.00. • Here is an exceptional, large carved expanding whimsey done in a tramp art, notch carved style. If you see it in person it will "wow" you. About 19 inches long, by 2 inches square when closed. It opens up and keeps expanding and expanding with various pliers, legs, and more. It is really something. Age is unknown, probably c. 1930's. Each of the photos shows a different view. • This whimsey pin is a carved leaf with three dangling baskets carved from peach pits. The baskets are attached with hand made copper wire loops. The leaf is 3 1/2" wide, each basket is about 1" high, and the overall height is 2 1/4". A safety pin is attached to the back for wearing. • This delicate whimsey with a ball-in-cage has a long circular taper to the shaft. It was made in the early 1900's, has a medium brown stain, and is in excellent condition. It is 5" long by 5/8" square. The price is $90.00. Inventory Code: APOO. Image ... Larger image.

• Here is a nice wooden double ball-in-cage, about a foot long, with old white and well oxidized gold paint. This whimsey has two finials - one at either end - painted gold; as are accent lines around the edges and ends, and the cages. The balls are about 1 1/2" in diameter. The size is 12" long, by 2 1/8" square. It was made around the 1920's or 30's, and in very good worn condition. The price is $210.00 Inventory code APCR. Horizontal view ... Diagonal view ... • This large, elegant, whimsey carved and decorated frame has an exceptional look. It dates from the late 1800's, with applied carved leaves, hearts, ivy, a large scrolled crest, and scalloped layers. Each finial has a freely moving, whimsey carved ring and is topped with an acorn. Shaped columns stand out in front of each side. The dark brown varnish is beautifully crazed. It measures 41" high by 18 3/4" wide by 2 1/2". Inside the frame is the original mirror. • This is a complex bottle whimsey which contains a large detailed ship in a port with several buildings and cranes. The bottle is about 12" long by 3 1/2" in diameter and is almost filled with this assemblage. It is on a base with the name "Bremerhafen." The ship has a German flag and the bottle is marked in German. This piece likely was made in the last 50 years, but is not new. It is in excellent sturdy condition. The price is $350.00. • This is another nicely carved whimsey. It has a single large cage with three carved balls inside. It is carved from a dark colored wood, and is 7 3/4" long by 1 3/4" by 1 3/4". • Here is a rustic whimsey carving of an arrow through a slab of wood. The arrow is 6" long by 3/4" high by 3/8" thick. The slab, which is a slice of branch with the bark still on, is an oval about 1 1/2" by 2", 3/8" thick.   Here are two funky whimsey carvings. They are somewhat crude - or perhaps were never finished as there are still a few pencil marks here and there. Both are carved from pine, and are probably only about 20 years old. They are in excellent condition.

• This is a very finely detailed whimsey carving of a knife, with two balls in a cage in the handle. It is decorated with incised patterns, hearts, and the initials "J" and "W". It is finished with a light lacquer or varnish, and measures 8 1/2" long by approximately 3/4" by 3/4". The condition is excellent, with only one tiny, very old chip missing, which may have happened when the knife was originally carved. It was probably made in the early 1900's. The price is $135.00. • This is a large and fun bottle whimsey of a tricycle contained in a one gallon bottle. It is in very good condition and sturdy for shipping. The bottle is 12" by 6" in diameter. The tricycle is glued in place so the bottle can be upright. The construction does not seem too old, maybe done within the last 20 years or so. It certainly is unusual. The price is $125.00. • This small bottle whimsey has a fishing trawler built inside. The smokestack has cotton "steam", and the intricate rigging is made from sticks, thread, copper wire, and mesh nets. It is fastened to a wood stand. The bottle is 4 1/2" long by 2 1/8" in diameter; it is 2 3/4" high with the stand. The condition is excellent. The price is $75.00.
