This is a bold, graphic, carved wood sign with a seal, eagle, and the words "U.S. Veterans of Foreign MARS"! Yes, Mars! The carver apparently had trouble deciding which way the letters should go around the circle. Another interesting touch is that the eagle has human hands instead of talons. The deep relief carving is very well done, with strong old red, blue, and gold paint. The small stars were carved out, then had sheet metal stars pressed in. It is 28" by 28" by about 2 1/2" thick, made c. the 1920's or 30's. The condition is good: there are chips missing from the two upper corners (old breaks), and some of the metal stars are either missing or were never added. The price is $525.00. Inventory Code: ASWH.
