Painted stoolThis is a nice little handmade and colorfully painted stool. It has great color and design. The piece was made from crate wood with long spools for legs. The top and sides are decoratively painted with a bull's-eye in the center, portions of circles in the corners and several polka dots. Three of the four spool legs are painted, but they all seem to be original. The fourth has some pencil writing which includes part of the phrase "Thy will be" with some additional writing on either side, and also a heart and some words on the leg; so our guess is that it was deliberately left unpainted so as not to cover the writing. The stool is in very good, sturdy condition with some obvious wear from years of use, and what seems like a little bit of white paint on the top. It was probably made around the 1940's, and is about 12 1/4" wide by 10 1/2" deep by 7 1/2" high. The price is $175.00. Inventory Code: CSPH.   See a slideshow of several views [766k] ... Painted standThis is a folky and colorful painted stand. The top is an elongated octagon, made from plywood, and painted in various size triangles and diamonds. The crossed base and the main vertical support are both pine, while the lower sculptural and geometrical legs are plywood. The entire piece with the exception of the stained crossed base is painted in green, yellow/gold and black. Over the years the paint is taken on a nice surface. The stand was likely made around the 1920's or a little later. Overall, the condition is very good although two of the feet have some loss and have been retouched. For the rest, there is some evident wear to the paint, especially on the top. The stand is 24" high while the top is 18" across by 14 1/4" deep. It is 16" across the base. The price is $295.00. Inventory Code: TKKA.   See a slideshow of several views [382k] ... Painted stand ... The top ... Another angle ... The other three sides ... Two more views ... Closeup of the base ... Painted standThis is a nice looking handmade wooden stand. It has good form and color. The legs seemed to have been made from broomsticks, while the top was cut from a 1 1/2" thick board. It is painted in old green, which has some wear and loss of the paint, and now shows several different tones. The stand is in good sturdy condition, with one slight split by a nail, where the legs are joined, and an age split in the top that is still solid. It is just under 32" high. Each side of the triangular base is 14" across, and the top is 10" in diameter. It was probably made around the 1920's or 30's. The price is $175.00. Inventory Code: TRSC.   Painted stand ... Memory ware shard pedestal standThis is a really beautiful and detailed memory ware pedestal. It is covered with a particularly rich variety of shards from very fine china, as well as doll heads, baby figurines, patterned glass, a china frog and rooster's head, a lady's watch, and a doll's cup and pitcher. The spaces between the shards are painted in an old, dark, oxidized gold. In the center top is a heavy hammered copper ashtray that is not attached. It lifts off to reveal a round open space. While probably not original to the stand, this is how we found it, so we are offering it as is.

There is a fair amount of loss around the lower edges of the top, with a lesser amount on the edges of the base. This is not at all obvious or intrusive to us, we had to look closely to see some of it. Take a look at the many closeup images to see the great detail for yourself, and if you have any questions, give us a call. This wonderful stand was made in the early 1900's. Some of the decoration appears to be much older. It measures 28" high by about 9" by 9". The price is $775.00. Inventory Code: THHA.   Memory ware pedestal stand ... The other sides ... The base is rectangular, about 8 1/2" by 12", while the top is about 9" square. It is just under 24" tall. This piece has a little wear to the finish and some slight loss, but otherwise is in extremely good and sturdy condition. The price is $175.00. The top is a single board, the base, legs, and decoration are branches with the bark left on. This entire piece is finished in a dark varnish which has taken on a very nice surface over the years. Primitive finialThis is a very folky, primitive old finial post that would make a great display for a whirligig or weathervane. It is wood, eight sided at the base and top, and carved to a taper in the middle. It is topped with a heavy iron post and a hand formed sheet metal cap. The entire piece is heavily weathered, with remnants of dark red paint on the wood. The metal portions have a dark oxidized surface with remnants of dark red and brown paint. It was probably made in the 1800's or very early 1900's. It has been mounted on a black wooden base. The finial is 34 3/4" high by 5" by 5" at the base; as mounted it stands 37" high by 9 3/4" by 9 3/4". The condition is very weathered, with age cracks, but strong and sturdy - very good for display. There are a few very small brighter scratches on the metal cap. The price is $375.00. Inventory Code: TCWR-B.   Folky primitive finial ... More views ... Closeups of the top ... This "Chickenwhistle" is one of those wild pieces we come across periodically which really make us smile. This contraption has a wooden box with hinged lid, mounted on a base. Above the box is an open basket made from scrap sheet metal, with a handle at the top. The whole thing is painted red and white, with a really nice old surface to the paints. The story is that this device was placed on a piano top with a live chicken in the round metal area on top. Grain was put in the lower box. When the chicken "whistled" along with the tune being played, the lid was opened to the grain box and the chicken got its treat. This piece is 14 1/2" wide, 8" deep, and about 21" high. It supposedly is of African-American origin and is in very good, used condition. It was made c. the 1930's. It makes a great plant stand, display, or just enjoy it for itself. The price is $285.00. Inventory Code: AWAR.   Overall image ... Other side ... Open feedbox lid ... Front ... Back ... View with a plant ... 2nd view with plant.

There is a small area on both of the long surfaces which seem to have been made as frames. Although they may have been done simply for decorative aspects, they certainly can be used to hold a small picture. The planter was probably made in the 1930's or 40's - although it could be earlier. The price is $795.00. Inventory Code: AHAT.   Image ... View 2.

Blue standWood standThese are two crate separators which make super little tables or stands. Carved diamond willow standThis reptile and amphibian-covered stand is carved from diamond willow, with a soapstone base. Reichter, square bow, flat bottom, 1859 Minnesota River" and is supported by a brass hose nozzle. The silver paint looks fairly recent, but the snakes, etc. all have a very good, old, dark, patinated surface. The stand is 44" tall, the base is 9 1/2" in diameter, and the condition is excellent, with one old, probably original break near the base. The price is $750.00. The round top is decorated in swirls of many colors. These look like a combination of sponge or stipple painting and then blue and white oils applied more thickly. The piece was probably made c. 1920. One of the little rectangular pieces around the top edge is missing, and there is some loss to the others. It is in otherwise excellent condition, is sturdy, and very unusual. The price is $550.00.
