This is a fun, funky, and folky plant stand made from a log with a relief carved face. This wild piece is about 35 1/2" high by 9" in diameter. It was painted in red, brown, green, and yellow which, while still nice and colorful has some obvious wear from being outside. All of the facial features are carved, while the top of the head is wrapped with bentwood, which also goes down the length and around the chin, framing the face. The top of the log has been scooped out, leaving a place for a plant pot - or something else to be inserted and displayed. This stand was probably made around the 1970's or 80's. There are little old wormholes over quite a lot of the piece, much more toward the back, but we see absolutely nothing visibly active now. Overall, it is in good condition with a little loss to the eyebrows and a little softness to the wood, but is generally sturdy and in good shape. The price is $325.00. Inventory Code: TRKK.

This is a rustic and primitive fisherman's holding box. It came from Maine and was apparently used for many years. The catch would be put here and the box put in the water, held to the boat by the long metal chain. Now, as a decorative and unusual storage box, it could hold newspapers, magazines, or general items - inserted through the hinged opening in the back. The box is made from pine, with old iron reinforcing corners and strap hinges. It was painted white, likely over black paint or sealer. The box is in good sturdy condition with no rot or soft spots. Obviously used, the white paint is worn, splotchy, and shows some of black. The surface shows in the photos. This box was likely made between the 1920's and 40's. It is about 23 1/2" high by 12 1/4" wide by 9" deep. The price is $125.00. Inventory Code: TARO.

This is a folk art stand made from wood and covered all over with dowels of various sizes. It was likely made as a plant stand. The top section is actually constructed primarily of dowels. The stand has very nice form, with a three tiered base, tapered center column, and circular, three layered top. The stand is painted in white with little bits of glitter here and there. The paint has weathered over the years, as this piece may have been used outdoors. While there is just a little loss to five of the small pieces, it really is very sturdy, clean, and usable. It was probably made about the 1950's or earlier. The stand is about 28 1/2" high, while the top is about 11" square, with a 5 1/2" circular opening. The price is $475.00. Inventory Code: CPAA.

Here is a set of five whimsical cedar carvings. These include two candlestick holders, one an elegant turned piece in the shape of a hurricane lamp, the other shaped like a tall vase with two handles. The other three are non-functional decorative pieces: an elongated egg on a pedestal, an interesting geometric form with four feet, and a very smooth, round ball. All have beautiful color and grain patterns. They are finished in varnish - ranging from a glossy surface on the ball to matte on the egg. The egg and the vase both had some splits (and branch holes in the egg) that were filled with wood filler before being varnished. The largest piece, the "hurricane lamp", is 13 1/2" tall by 5 3/4" in diameter. The ball is about 3 3/4" in diameter. They are in excellent condition, with an old, tight crack on the four-footed piece. Age is unknown, but they are probably mid-20th century. The price for the group is $250.00. Inventory Code: TKAH.

This amphibian-covered stand is carved from diamond willow, with a soapstone base. The natural contours and ridges of the diamond willow have been carved into snakes, frogs, and salamanders, all very finely detailed with set in eyes and lines, spots, etc. The match holder (?) on top is incised with the words "F. Reichter, square bow, flat bottom, 1859 Minnesota River" and is supported by a brass hose nozzle. The silver paint looks fairly recent, but the snakes, etc. all have a very good, old, dark, patinated surface.
